Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as a Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). Then she joined NBC News Washington two years later as general reporter. In 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988 she became the chief congressional reporter. Mitchell was appointed the chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs correspondent in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell participated on the TV show Meet the Press and also hosted the program. Mitchell was a panelist at the debates in 1988 with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell received the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her work in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell covered in the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy reports over time, including fiscal reform, the budget, and an investigation into the Iran Contra saga. Mitchell traveled extensively along with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
