Her tragic murder by a gunman triggered an outpouring of emotion in Latino communities similar the way people reacted following the death of Elvis Presley and John Lennon's. Selena is a hugely popular Latino artist across North America, Selena's music has influenced many people throughout the world. Selena may have been hailed by some as an Latina Madonna, but she is still a great character model. Selena's off-stage family values and her participation in AIDS awareness efforts make her a good example.
